Home care organisations with a public service mandate must accept every person in their area; private home care companies are an additional choice.

Aids such as a walker, a wheelchair or grab rails, adaptations to the home, meal services and transport services make everyday life manageable. Disability insurance or old-age insurance pays for much of it; Pro Senectute, the Red Cross and the municipalities offer much of it.

Family carers need relief themselves. Respite services, day centres and holiday beds give back a few hours or days – ask for them before your strength runs out.
